In continuation to IIML’s objective we are holding a Seminar on Maritime Law at Hotel Suba International, Sahar Road, Chakala, Andheri (East) on 24th November, 2011. It will be a full day Seminar conducted by Stalwarts of the Industry.
This Seminar is being conducted by Indian Institute of Maritime Law (IIML) with the motive of educating the key Employers and Employees of the Shipping Industry and also for the members of legal fraternity on various maritime related issues in the regular day to day working which could be resolved with proper knowledge and understanding of the Maritime Law, be it B/L or Claims.

Mr. Niru Pillai, is a Barrister at Law, England & Wales, Solicitor from Singapore, has consented to lead the seminar. He was called to the English Bar by the Honorable Society of the Inner Temple in 1976. He holds two Masters degrees from The University of Melbourne and Trent University, Nottingham. The latter is an LLM in Advanced Litigation which he attained with distinction. He is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore since 1978. In 1990, he was admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK and a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators.

Mr. Joy Thattil, a practicing Maritime lawyer in India and abroad and also the present Secretary General – IIML,. He has obtained his L.L.B. from Government Law College, Ernakulam and did specialization in Maritime Law from University of Southampton, U.K. He as Secretary General of IIML, has got due to his in-depth knowledge and experience on Maritime Laws works for safe guarding the interests of the people in the Shipping Industry. He has had the opportunity to conduct various cases in India and abroad representing clients ranging from Ship owners to individuals raising claims against Shipping Companies. He will also talk on International Maritime Law – Basic Pillars.
Mr. Bechu Kurian Thomas, who is a Maritime Lawyer in India. Mr. Thomas handles variety of cases of all nature including Maritime, Arbitration, Corporate, Taxation, Constitutional, Civil, Criminal and even International Arbitration. He started his practice at Kottayam and in 1996 shifted to the High Court of Kerala and in 1998 he established a firm in the name and style M/S Bechu Kurian & Co. He was the recipient of the prestigious British Council Chevening Scholarship in the year 1997 and had undergone training in Commercial Law at the College of Law, York and later interned at an English law firm “ Hammond Suddards “.He is a guest speaker in law at various fora.
The Seminar will be formally inaugurated by the Chairman of JNPT, Mumbai.
A detailed agenda for the day will be released shortly and the delegates are restricted to the maximum of 50 Nos.
The Seminar fee payable to Indian Institute of Maritime Law (IIML) is Rs.5,500.00 per person, which includes Breakfast, tea/coffee, Lunch and High tea for the seminar day. There is a facility of joining the Seminar thru web for which there will be an additional fee of Rs.1,750.00 per feed.
